In the past, notebooks referred to small notebooks used to record things before humans invented writing. They often used the method of tying strings to record numbers or events to convey meaning and communicate information. This can be seen from various objects such as net maps, string patterns on pottery, and netted ornaments on pottery in ancient paintings of prehistoric societies, indicating that recording (counting) with knotted strings was one of the widely used recording methods by ancestors in prehistoric times.

This book is divided into several types of notebooks. Common cover materials include leather, synthetic PU leather, PP leather, fabric, and metal. Binding styles include softcover notebooks, loose-leaf notebooks, ring-bound notebooks, and hardcover notebooks.
